ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Hughson’s Caleb Wilson showcases power to all fields
Caleb Wilson
Hughson’s Caleb Wilson marked his first career multi-homer game on Tuesday against Modesto Christian (ALEX MORALES/The Journal).

Caleb Wilson helped the Hughson High baseball team cruise to a 15-1 victory over Modesto Christian on Tuesday afternoon by blasting a pair of two-run home runs, one to each side of the field. It marked the 5-10, 170-pound right-hander’s first career multi-homer game.

“My very first one,” he said. “It feels awesome.”

It was a cherry on top of a week where had hits in each of the Huskies’ four games. Last Wednesday, in a 25-1 win over Riverbank, Wilson drove in five runs off a hit and a sacrifice fly. The very next day in a rematch, he drove in three more on a pair of doubles as the Huskies won 23-3. And on Friday against Tokay’s Brock Sell, a Stanford commit, he had another RBI base knock as they won again, 6-5.

WIlson credits his recent power surge to time spent in the weight room. He hopes that added strength can also help his performance on the mound, as he has 3-0 record and a 1.13 ERA in 25 innings over five appearances.
