Turlock High won its first Central California Conference dual meet of the season on Wednesday when Atwater High came into town and dropped all but one of the night’s 14 matches. The Bulldogs (7-3 overall, 1-0 CCC) finished with 68 team points to Atwater’s 3, a number boosted by seven pins, two technical falls, and a major decision.

“Our kids wrestled hard and they looked good and it was a great way to start league,” Turlock’s head coach Mike Contreras said.

Alex Gutierrez (113), Jason Valdovinos (120), Dylan White (138), Isaac Bertalotto (145), Trevor Gray (160), Ricky Flores (220), and Ricardo Garcia (HVY) each pinned their Falcon opponents. Ricco McCombs (126) and Rafael Herrera (132) provided Turlock’s technical falls while Brady Egelston (106) earned the major decision. It was Turlock’s most dominating performance so far.

“Now our kids have two successful outings in a row, so hopefully we can keep it going,” Contreras said.

Wednesday marked the fourth consecutive dual victory for Turlock and is, in Contreras’ opinion, just the beginning of another stellar year on the mat. The Bulldogs will now kick their schedule into overdrive as their next three CCC duals will be on the road in addition to this weekend’s Oakridge Invitational.

“It’s a good performance for us; it’s one down and four to go,” Contreras said. “Hopefully we can stay healthy and keep the momentum we’re building right now.”

Turlock competes at Oakridge High today before traveling to Merced High on Tuesday.
