There was no need for Elise Cusenza and her Turlock High girls tennis teammates to go into a jubilant celebration after beating crosstown rival Pitman High 9-0 on a hot Thursday afternoon.

That’s because the Bulldogs are accustomed to winning, especially in Central California Conference action.

Without giving up a loss, the Bulldogs finished their league run 10-0. But there’s more: They also captured their fourth consecutive CCC title and have gone 34-0 as a team in the last three league seasons.

“Give credit to the girls and their efforts,” Turlock coach Juan Alaniz said.

Cusenza, who’s been the school’s No. 1 girls player for the past four years, beat Pitman High challenger Britney Leon 6-1, 6-4 to finish off her second undefeated season. Cusenza and her teammates didn’t do much celebrating, and that’s probably because there’s a lot of tennis left to play.

Both Pitman and Turlock players will compete in Tuesday’s CCC Singles Tournament at Golden Valley High, with matches beginning at 9 a.m.

On Thursday, it was all Turlock. Cusenza, Maecie Ireland, Kaitlyn Ireland, Ashley Gomez, Karsen Melgard and Natalia Lima all won their singles matches. In doubles, it was duos Camille Stiles and Taylor Olson, Jillian Temple and Lizete Duarte, and Katrina Santiago and Jenna Anderson who finished off the hot afternoon with Turlock wins.
