Delhi topples Turlock, Patterson

The Delhi High softball team hasn’t done much losing this season. The Lady Hawks completed the first half of their Southern Athletic League season with a 5-1 record and on Friday they continued their winning ways with back-to-back victories over Turlock and Patterson High during the first day of the NorCal Tournament in Tracy.

Both of Delhi’s victories were driven by sophomore Alyssa Stockton who stood on the hill and racked up a combined 23 strike-outs through two complete games.

In the Hawks’ 7-0 win over Turlock, Stockton pitched a no hitter. In their 3-1 victory over Patterson, she allowed only two hits and no earned runs.

“She’s leading in strike-outs in the state with 191 so she’s throwing well,” Delhi’s head coach Tami Tela said.

Stockton’s clutch pitching paved the way for her offense to produce. Selena Lopez was one of the most productive Hawks at the plate where she went three for three and hit two RBIs against Turlock. Other notable Delhi batters included Alicia Knight who hit a two-run homer against the Tigers and Bianca Nunez who recorded two RBIs against the Bulldogs.

“Personally, I feel like we can play against anybody. We can play and we can beat them,” Tela said. “We play our own game. We do what we do and so far it’s been working for us.”

Delhi returns to Tracy today to finish its NorCal run before jumping back into SAL play against Le Grand High on April 10.

“We’re going to come in and swing the bat and just play our game,” Tela said. “As long as we keep hitting the way we are I see no problems in league.”
