Hilmar High is two matches away from finishing with an undefeated Trans Valley League record for the second straight year, and only one match away from clinching the outright 2014 TVL title.

With Monday's straight-set win over Hughson High, (25-14, 25-10 and 25-5), the Yellowjackets are left with  only Escalon and Riverbank High before the end of the regular season and the beginning of what they hope will be another deep run into the playoffs.

“They want the home game, the girls are playing for that,” Hilmar head coach Patti Harris said. “And they're playing to be undefeated another year.”

The 'Jackets will face their biggest test to their aspirations Wednesday when they face Escalon at home. The Cougars, who suffered their only league loss of the season at the hands of Hilmar, will undoubtedly be motivated to play the foil to their rivals and nab a piece of the TVL championship.

“It's Escalon; it's always nerve racking,” Harris said. “It should be a really good game.”

Emily Baptista finished Monday's match with 24 kills and 17 digs, Haylee Pearce finished with 28 assists and Mariah Ahid finished with five blocks.

Hilmar's final league match of the season will held next Monday at Riverbank. The brackets for the Division IV Sac Joaquin Section tournament are expected to be released the following Tuesday.
