Turlock High’s Isaac Bertalotto was on the national stage once again last week when he joined the California USA Wrestling team in Florida for the USA Wrestling Cadet National Duals Tournament. With his help in the 145 pound division, the California team earned 7th place in the Freestyle competition and finished as consolation champions in Greco-Roman. It was Bertalotto’s first national team experience.

“It’s a little different than individual, a different atmosphere,” Bertalotto said. “It changes the way you wrestle; it’s more team oriented.”

Bertalotto finished with an overall record of 12-2 after four full days of competition. He finished 6-1 in the Freestyle division and 6-1 in the Greco-Roman division, with his losses coming by way of technical fall at the hands of Pennsylvania and Maryland, respectively.

“I felt like I did well, but I didn’t like losing those two the way I did,” Bertalotto said.

Bertalotto is currently fundraising for another national tournament, a return trip to Fargo, ND for the National Freestyle and National Greco-Roman tournaments that will be held mid-July.
