The Turlock Vikings won the 2011 JV Super Bowl Championship on Saturday at Atwater High School when they defeated the Manteca Jaguars 30-12.

The Vikings were led by Danny Valesquez, who accounted for three of their four touchdowns and led the game and season in rushing yards.

“Danny Velasquez is a special player,” head coach Tim Roberts said. “He wants to win. His enthusiasm brought a lot of the team together and I’m proud of him.”

Valesquez also lent his hand on defense, intercepting two Manteca passes as the Jaguars threatened to score. Tight end Damon Treadwell was the Vikings’ second scorer, catching a 73-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

“To find ourselves this year, winning the super bowl, it took a full team to do that,” Roberts said.

Turlock entered the night anticipating a touch game. The last time these two teams met the Vikings barely won in overtime. Although the Jaguars showed flashes of their ability and scored twice, the Vikings maintained momentum and controlled their opponents the entire game.

The win is Roberts’ second super bowl victory as a head coach and his 12th with the Vikings overall.

“I don’t have any words to explain,” Roberts said. “I just know that the kids came out and played and were ready for it. They played Viking football.”
