For the second consecutive year the boys of Turlock FC United are soccer champions. With the help of players from Turlock, Ceres, and Modesto, FC United entered the 2013 NorCal Premier Soccer League Spring Cross Regional Playoff in Davis and dominated the likes of Ballistic United of Pleasanton, Santa Clara Sporting, and Inter Rage Academy of Sacramento.
“The kids are really talented,” head coach Vincente Mejia said. “It’s a great group. We lost three starters in the beginning of the year, but the persistence of the kids to want more and to improve really shows their ability to pull together.”
Turlock first faced Ballistic United in the quarterfinal where it advanced with a 4-0 victory. The semi-final against Santa Clara Sporting offered more competition but FC United was able to walk away with a 1-0 win. Finally, in the final match against Inter Rage, Turlock was back dominating form as they took the tournament championship with a 3-0 performance.
“We played our best game in the semi-final,” Mejia said. “We won the championship, but to beat a big rival like Santa Clara, who beat us the last three times we’ve played, it was a sweet payback.”
