Week 8 started for Turlock Youth Football at 8 a.m. Saturday with the Vikings hosting the Central Valley (CV) 49ers.  Pee Wee Vikings started the day with a shutout victory over the CV 49ers 40-0. JV continued the shutout with a 36-0 victory.  Varsity, with the biggest score, handed the CV 49ers another loss with a final score 48- 0.  Next week the Vikings will be on the road, heading to Atwater to take on the Falcons, who are licking their wounds as they were beaten by the TYF Niners.  Game times will be 1:30 p.m. for Rookies, 3 p.m. for Pee Wee, 5 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for Varsity.

The TYF 49ers continued the winning streak on Saturday, hosting the Atwater Falcons for the afternoon games and winning at all levels.  Pee Wee started with a commanding victory 38-6. The JV squad shut out the Falcons 26-0; and the  Varsity destroyed the Falcons with a final score 50-15.  Next week the Niners will be on the road as they visit the Oakdale Stampede with game times at 1:30 p.m. for Rookies, 3 p.m. for Pee Wee, 5 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for Varsity.

This week's feature is both the Rookie squads for TYF.  It’s hard to write about these little guys since at the Rookie level scores aren’t kept.  This allows the kids to focus on learning the game and mastering the art of football before being put into a competition at the end of their season.  Both Turlock Rookie teams took the field on Saturday and battled their opponents.

Some highlights from the Niners were Dion Alvarez, Cole Gilbert and Gannon Evans all ran the ball for touchdowns.  The Niners, without their starting quarterback, had over 200 yards rushing and a strong defense that didn’t allow the Falcons to score all day.

Viking highlights included the defensive squad starting the game with a recovery of a fumble by Julian Barajas setting up the first TD with a five yard run by Cole Hendrix.  On the next series, Barajas recovered another fumble which allowed Cole Hendrix to pass to Joshua Weatherbee for the second TD of the game.  The third defensive series saw Joey Stout to cause a fumble and recover it as well.  The Viking defense held the CV 49ers to punts for the rest of the game.  Hendrix ran a 21 yard TD, and Stout also ran 20 yards setting up Luis Montenez for a 20 yard TD.  Isiah Frias got the last TD with a 15 yard run.  Although Cen Cal doesn’t keep score for Rookies games, I am sure some are keeping their own win and loss records.
