A Turlock man is facing kidnapping and other charges after taking his young son from his legal guardian, the Turlock Police Department reported.

Owen McDonald, 32, of Turlock was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, interference with child custody and a probation violation, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

A kidnapping report was made to the Turlock Police Department shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The reporting party has custody of the 22-month-old boy. She said McDonald showed up at the home in the 2200 block of E. Hawkeye Avenue "unannounced and without permission" and took the child "without permission and without advising her," Parmley said.

Police officers were dispatched to the home and found McDonald outside the residence, but his son was not with him.

"Initially, McDonald refused to disclose the location where he had taken his son," Parmley said.

Eventually, McDonald told the officers the child was at a home in the 4600 block of E. Barnhart Road. Officers went to the home and found the child safe and with family members, "who were unaware of the custody status and that McDonald had kidnapped his son," Parmley said.

The child was returned to his home and McDonald was arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Jail.
