A man died in an apparent suicide after stepping into the path of an oncoming train Monday afternoon in Turlock.

The name of the deceased is not being released.

The incident was reported to the Turlock Police Department around 2:30 p.m. Monday in the area of W. Canal Drive and N. Front Street.

A witness told police officers the man was alone and that he appeared to have intentionally stepped onto the railroad tracks.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
