Sideshow disrupted by Turlock Police
TPD

Turlock Police officers were dispatched out to a sideshow that drew in an estimated 100 vehicles to a parking lot on Countryside Drive.

The sideshow was in the parking lot of Tilly's and Dick’s Sporting Goods at Monte Vista Crossings. Officers arrived around 8 p.m. Wednesday and found about 100 vehicles at the scene, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

“Several aerial fireworks were launched from the crowd,” Parmley said.

The California Highway Patrol was able to provide support. Both agencies maintained perimeter positions on the crowd and conducted enforcement stops as resources permitted, Parmley said.

Two people - an adult and a juvenile - were arrested for driving without a license.

The crowd stayed for about two and a half hours and congested traffic in the area before dispersing and going southbound on Highway 99. CHP and the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department were both notified.

Eight Turlock Police officers were assigned over the duration of the call, Parmley said.
