A Turlock man was killed in a solo vehicle collision in a construction zone along Highway 99 on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Carlos Miguel, 28, of Turlock.

Miguel was driving a 2010 BMW 328i on northbound Highway 99, north of the Applegate Road around 1 a.m. Monday.

The California Highway Patrol said Miguel had driven the BMW onto the highway from a closed on-ramp at Applegate Road. It continued down a stretch of newly paved road, until going off the pavement and onto a dirt road, where it struck a concrete K-rail.

The force of the impact caused the BMW to overturn and strike a parked piece of construction equipment.

The entire area was a closed construction zone, according to the CHP.

Miguel sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The CHP suspects alcohol was a factor in the collision. The collision remains under investigation.
