Hughson man convicted of domestic violence, firearm assault and threats
Stanislaus County DA

MODESTO — A Stanislaus County jury has convicted a Hughson man of multiple felonies after prosecutors said he assaulted his wife, violated a protective order, threatened to kill her if she testified and later pointed a firearm at his father during a confrontation.

District Attorney Jeff Laugero announced Friday that 41‑year‑old Troy McComak was found guilty of felony domestic violence, assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, criminal threats and several related charges.

Prosecutors said the case stemmed from a series of violent incidents beginning March 6, 2025, inside the couple’s Hughson home. During an argument, McComak assaulted his wife as she tried to leave, suffocating her to the point she struggled to breathe and nearly lost consciousness. When she attempted to escape, he chased her, dragged her back into a room and prevented her from leaving, according to the district attorney’s office.

The victim eventually fled while McComak was away and reported the assault to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. He was arrested and later released under a protective order barring him from contacting her.

Despite that order, prosecutors said McComak confronted the victim again while she was holding their infant. He forcibly took the child, dragged the victim by her hair and struck her in the head, causing injuries. He then armed himself with a shotgun, a pistol and body armor, threatening to kill her if she testified at his upcoming court hearing.

At the May hearing, the victim — acting under McComak’s threats — minimized the earlier assault. Afterward, McComak drove her and his father back to his residence, where he again armed himself. When his father attempted to intervene, McComak pushed him and pointed a firearm at him, prosecutors said.

His father called 911, but McComak hung up and ordered him to claim it was a misdial. McComak fled the home, leaving the weapons behind. He was later located and arrested in Nevada.

McComak faces a maximum sentence of 35 years and 8 months in state prison. Sentencing will be scheduled in Stanislaus County Superior Court.
