A collision between a big-rig truck and a sedan on Geer Road left a 19-year-old Turlock woman hospitalized with major injuries, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred around 9:15 a.m. Monday on Geer Road, north of Grayson Road.

The woman, identified as Stephanie St. Pierre, was driving a Toyota Celica north on Geer. According to the CHP she made a left turn directly into the path of a dump truck pulling a backhoe that was southbound on Geer.

The car was pinned underneath the big-rig, trapping St. Pierre inside the car until fire fighters could free her.

St. Pierre was taken to a Modesto hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the big-rig, Robert Watson, 65, of Modesto, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The conditions on the roads Monday morning were foggy, though visibility was about 1,000 feet, the CHP reported.

The collision remains under investigation, though at this time the CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
