Dana McGarry has been a resident of Turlock for the past 35 years and is the administrator for the Turlock Downtown Property Owners Association.

 

Q.  What is the biggest change you've seen in the downtown area?

A. "Property ownership has shifted from a mix of local and out-of-town owners to nearly all local owners with a more personal stake in the health and vitality of the downtown. Vacancies are down to below 5%; down from about 25% just a few years ago."

 

Q.  What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

A. "Keeping events fresh and exciting for the community."

 

Q.  Who has been a big influence on you professionally?

A. "Visionaries who challenge the status quo."

 

Q.  What do you look forward to the most each day as you go to work? A. "Learning and growing in my knowledge of downtown."

 

Q.  What change would you like to see happen in Turlock in the next five years?

A. "Commuter rail and more recreational opportunities for all ages."

 

Q.  What do you think Turlock should be most proud of?

A. "Its commitment to non-profit organizations and youth organizations."

 

Q.  What do you like to do for fun?

"Gardening and golf."

 

Q.  What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

A.  "I married into a large family and every Thanksgiving my house hosts dinner for up to 25 people."
