Denair students will soon have the opportunity to participate in a program aimed at inspiring and encouraging young women.

Local nonprofit She Became, founded by Joanna Esparza, has been hosting girl empowerment rallies at Denair Unified School District for the past four years. The next rally is set for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Denair Middle School.

The rally offers positive relationship building with mentors, career guidance, emotional support and community engagement.

“We believe that when girls and women are together, they’re learning, growing, supporting and encouraging each other,” said Esparza.

She said that there’s been a lot of positive feedback from the rallies.

“We have so many surveys come back with real stories of young ladies setting goals, boundaries, overcoming fear and shyness.”

She Became helps youth seeking higher education with campus tours, financial aid workshops, hosting vocational and trades speakers and with recommendation letters.

The organization supports volunteerism as a bridge between girls and the community at large and also connect professional women with a heart to serve others with girls seeking a mentor to learn and grow into their potential.

Esparza has also published a few books, including “She Became BRAVE: Become a BRAVE girl in 20 Minutes” and “Discover Your True Worth: Awaken and Discover Your True Worth as a Woman.”

Esparza encourages all women to become “BRAVE” — bold, resilient, accepted, victorious and educated.
