Emanuel Medical Center is focusing on community health this month with breast cancer awareness and a Harvest Health Fair.
As women across the country focus on their breast health during October, the Ruby E. Bergman Women’s Diagnostic Center at the Emanuel Cancer Center signaled its commitment to detecting breast cancers earlier, and more accurately, by transitioning all of their mammograms, for both regular screening and diagnostics, to the most advanced 3D digital mammography technology.
As part of its effort to highlight the importance of regular screening during the month of October, Emanuel Cancer Center is lighting up pink in the evenings and is offering community members a chance to win a pink tablet by signing up online to receive a short series of women’s health tips: https://www.cvdoctorshealthsystem.com/campaigns/mammogram/sign-up.
Emanuel will also host a free Harvest Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at the hospital campus. This family-friendly event will combine health education, wellness resources, and seasonal fun to help residents take charge of their health while enjoying a festive fall atmosphere.
The Harvest Health Fair is expected to welcome approximately 1,000 attendees and will feature free health screenings, wellness information, interactive demonstrations, and activities for all ages. Community organizations from across the region will be on site to connect attendees with valuable services and resources.
Free health tests will include blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), non-fasting cholesterol and glucose, vision, and anxiety and depression screenings. Attendees can also participate in CPR and first aid education, receive flu vaccinations, and explore ambulances and a medical helicopter.
With a Halloween-themed twist, children are encouraged to wear costumes and enjoy trick-or-treating at vendor booths throughout the event. Families can also enjoy bounce houses, giveaways, food and drinks, and other activities designed to make health and wellness engaging and accessible.
"Our goal is to bring the community together for a fun and informative event that promotes healthy living and connects families with valuable healthcare resources," Michael Klepin, Chief Executive Officer of Emanuel Medical Center, explained. "We are excited to welcome community members of all ages for a day focused on wellness, education, and community spirit."
