The bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with plenty of family fun and entertainment will be returning to downtown when the Turlock Certified Farmers’ Market opens Friday.

Marking its third year, the farmers’ market, will feature several new vendors and some returning favorites.

“Word of mouth is spreading and we are bringing in more vendors and sponsors,” said market manager Lauren Camarata. “We’re pretty excited about what we have to offer.”

Camarata said the list of vendors has grown by an estimated 10 to 15 percent and includes a new coffee roaster and an organic egg vendor. Some returning vendors include Hummus Heaven, Doc’s Ribs and Edith’s Baking Co.

The market will be open every Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through the end of October. The market is situated on Broadway, between Olive Avenue and A Street.

This year the market will also offer four special night markets, with the first scheduled for June 8, Camarata said.

In addition to the fresh produce and homemade goodies, the market will be bringing in local entertainment and street performers. Opening the market will be some impromptu performances from the cast of California State University, Stanislaus’ production of William Shakespeare’s “A Comedy of Errors.” The cast is expected to be on hand around 10 a.m. Friday.
