Fiery crash claims two lives
emergency

Two people were killed in a head-on collision early Monday morning in a rural area west of Turlock.

The deceased were identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner's office as Abraham Farias, 36, of Turlock and Oscar Armando Garcia, 45, of Patterson.

The collision happened shortly before 5:45 a.m. Monday on W. Main Street, west of Carpenter Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Farias was driving a 2016 Subaru SUV westbound on W. Main Street and Garcia was driving a 2006 Honda sedan eastbound on W. Main Street.

According to the CHP, Farias drove the Subaru into the eastbound lane to pass traffic ahead of him and collided head-on with the Honda.

The force of the impact caused the Subaru to overturn and come to a rest on its wheels on the south road edge. Immediately following the impact, the Subaru became engulfed in flames, the CHP reported.

The Honda came to a stop in the eastbound lane.

Both drivers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Both had been wearing their seat belts, according to the CHP.

It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played roles in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
