History of business:
There’s a hidden gem on the corner of North Golden State Boulevard and Dels Lane in Turlock, and the community is starting to catch on.

The Sunrise Inn Hotel has undergone plenty of changes for the better over the last two years, and recent renovations resulted in the new Sunrise Inn Food Plaza opening in the winter of 2020. While the pandemic put a pause on the new eatery’s grand opening, Turlockers have raved about the Food Plaza’s wide selection of delectable food online since trying it out for themselves.

“The outpouring of support from the community is so appreciated, and we’ve been receiving amazing reviews,” Food Plaza operations manager Krys Asi said. “We’re just doing our best to make good food at a fair price.”

While the new Food Plaza calls itself an Asian fusion restaurant, the eatery also offers other options like burritos and pizza. Soon, Asi said, the Food Plaza will offer American brunch and breakfast items.

All of the food is made fresh, with vegetables and other products coming straight from the farm onto customers’ plates. Popular meals include the restaurant’s combination plate, with options like fried rice or chow mein and entrees such as broccoli beef, orange chicken, kung pao shrimp and more. Customers usually add on a side, like pot stickers or egg rolls, Asi said.

“We always consider the customer’s opinion. They’re the ones supporting us and have helped us push through,” she said.

In the popular Facebook page called Turlock To Go, where residents post their favorite places to eat in town, many have sung the Food Plaza’s praises. Many commend the restaurant for how much food they provide at such a low price, while others rave about the flavors and options.

“If you haven’t tried the new Sunrise Inn Food Plaza at 1350 N. Golden State, you are missing out on some awesome Asian food,” Judy Schwab wrote last month. “We had lunch today and it’s second to NONE. This was my second time having their food and I was impressed both times. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, very clean and inviting with plenty of tables with lots of room.”

The entrance to the Sunrise Inn Food Plaza faces North Golden State Boulevard, with parking in the back. Turlock Transit riders who show their bus pass receive 5% off their purchase.
