Sometimes the most meaningful way to memorialize a loved one is by simply remembering their name.

Covenant Care Hospice is holding its annual memorial ceremony, Love Light, to honor and remember loved ones by dedicating a light with their name on a Christmas tree.

“It’s a great opportunity to memorialize a family member who has passed away or as a live memorial for someone who may be struggling or not doing well as encouragement,” said Ronda Malmberg, RN Administrator of Covenant Care Hospice.

Love Light will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Monte Vista Chapel activity center, with a short presentation of the symbolic lighting of the Christmas tree, speakers and the Song of the City Choir.

The tree will be displayed at Covenant Village alongside a placard with the names of people who have a light on the tree.

“It’s really meaningful,” said Malmberg. “People are able to take some time to be quiet, calm and think of their loved ones this time of year before it starts getting crazy day-to-day with the holidays.”

Any donation, regardless the size, will get the name and a light of whomever is being recognized on the Christmas tree.

“It’s also a great way to reach out to someone you love by donating a light for a loved one they might have recently lost,” said Malmberg. “My parents-in-law passed away a few years ago and when we received a postcard saying that our family friends sent in a memorial gift for them it meant so much to us.”

Monte Vista Chapel is located at 1619 E. Monte Vista Ave. and the ceremony is open to the public. The tree will remain on display at Covenant Village throughout the holidays.
