History of business:

As temperatures soar into the triple digits this week, there’s plenty of dust and dirt to go around for boats, trucks, tractors and even the floor mats of vehicles in Turlock. Luckily for local drivers, Cen-Cal Detailing is here to help courtesy of its new brick-and-mortar location.

When owner Chris Karam opened his vehicle detailing business in late 2016, he simply had a desire to share his passion for making cars shine with the local community. Less than three years and hundreds of clients later, Karam has taken Cen-Cal Detailing from a mobile detail company that began with his own love for cars to a business that now has its own brick and mortar site in downtown Turlock.

“Turlock needed a place like this. There’s no other place in town that will clean the inside and outside of your car,” Karam said, noting that Cen-Cal’s new location aims to fill a hole created when Reflections Car Wash closed abruptly in 2013.

Turlockers will now once again be able to have the exterior and interior of their car hand washed and detailed, if they wish. Cen-Cal offers packages that begin at $15 for an exterior car wash, 100 percent by hand.

“Our overall goal is to push out good work coming out of those gates...you may spend a little more, but you’re getting a quality hand wash,” Karam said. “We’re trying to do the best work for the best price.”

Karam just began operating out of his new location this month, he said, and has already noticed the benefits. Now that he isn’t driving out to his clients’ homes to wash their vehicles as often (he still offers mobile detailing), he’s able to get to more clients.

“We’re able to do more and from what I can tell so far we can get to everyone much faster,” he said.

Already, Cen-Cal has welcomed new clients since moving into its new location, thanks to drivers simply passing by.

“We’ve had a lot of new people who were just passing by or they heard something, or even old customers that used to come here when it was a car wash before,” Karam said. “It’s a totally new clientele.”

While Karam and his wife, Tiffany, are still working on remodeling the inside of Cen-Cal’s new location, they hope to have it completed by the end of the month. Tiffany hopes to eventually open a boutique inside of the car wash, while Karam’s vision also includes a lounge area for people to wait for their vehicles and, one day, an arcade.

“It’s a great location,” Karam said.
