Castle Airport will be flooded with planes next weekend — although they will be miniature in size. The 17th Annual International Miniature Aircraft Association District 10 West Coast Festival 2014 will be held May 22-25 at Castle Airport.

The event, the largest of its kind in the country, as in previous years will bring over 100 model aircraft pilots and over 200 aircraft from many West Coast regions. Castle Airport is considered to be a premier flying site.

There will be a variety of aircraft, representing the many eras of aviation. There will be military aircraft representing those flown in; WWI, WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as planes of the Golden Age of Aviation, the 1920s and 1930s.

Flying will start at noon on Thursday, and then resume at 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The IMAA Festival is open to the public and admission is free with a $5 daily or $10 full-event  charge for auto parking. There will be food and drink vendors as well as model aircraft hobby vendors.

Directions: Enter the Castle Commerce Center (former Castle Air Force Base) at either Buhach or Wallace Roads, make the first left onto Hospital Road, turn left when the road “Ts” and the entrance to the airfield parking site will be a quarter mile on the right.
