Officials identify Turlock woman killed in crash

The woman killed in a solo vehicle crash on Highway 99 in Delhi on July 16 has been identified by the Merced County Coroner’s Office as Carrie Tearney, 35, of Turlock.

The collision was reported to the CHP at 8:10 p.m. July 16 on Highway 99, south of Shanks Road in Delhi.

Tearney was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima northbound on the highway in the middle lane. For an unknown reason, she allowed the vehicle to drift into the other lane and then off the right shoulder.

Once off the highway, the vehicle started down an embankment and overturned several times before coming to a stop, according to the CHP.

Tearney was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and sustained fatal injuries. The CHP believes she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the collision.

It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
