History of Business: Next week will mark the 36th anniversary of the founding of Brenda Athletic Clubs and the family owned business’ commitment to keeping local families fit.

Founded in 1978 by Al Brenda, a local fitness enthusiast, educator, and athletic administrator, Brenda Athletic Clubs have since expanded from their first location in Modesto to include two Turlock establishments including the Turlock Fitness and Racquet Club.

With robust offerings varying from group fitness classes to swim lessons for children, the Turlock Fitness and Racquet Club is a one-stop-shop for families of all ages looking for an enjoyable way to get fit.

“A big draw for us is our atmosphere. We’re very welcoming and relaxed with a non-intimidating environment,” said General Manager Chris Robinson.

True to its name the athletic club offers indoor racquet ball courts as well as outdoor tennis courts along with private lessons for those interested in learning the sport or improving their skills. The club also features a diverse range of cardio and weight machines, free weights, basketball courts, Pilates reformer machines, as well as group cardio classes in Zumba, spin, yoga, and more.

“You really do feel like you’re part of a club when you come here. People can come and spend hours here,” said Robinson.

The Club also has new up and coming features in future months that include a new room for Pilates classes, an after school program for kids, as well as partnerships with local charities to raise funds for the initiatives through Jessica’s House and Turlock Together which the club has done before.

Those interested in scoping out the Turlock Fitness and Racquet Club can do so by attending the Club’s  anniversary celebrations which are open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. There will be several bounce houses, vendors, raffle prizes, and music to mark the athletic club’s milestone.

Business Specialty: Family environment and non-intimidating gym atmosphere.
