The Thanksgiving feast that the Turlock Gospel Mission holds each year for those Turlock residents in need will get a twist this year thanks to a partnership with La Mo restaurant.

This season about 100 of TGM’s guests will be treated to a sit down lunch at the downtown eatery. The menu will feature deep fried turkey and pies that have been donated and side dishes prepared by La Mo, said TGM Executive Director Christian Curby.

“We really believe in restoring dignity to our guests and when La Mo approached us about doing a lunch we thought it was an amazing way to deliver a meal in an environment that tells our guests that as a community we value them,” Curby said.

The luncheon, which guests had to sign-up for in advance, will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday and will feature music from saxophonist Mike Gutierrez.

The lunch at La Mo is not replacing the annual Thanksgiving dinner, but is rather in addition to it. TGM will host a traditional dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Homeless Assistance Ministry center at 432 S. Broadway. The women and children being sheltered at an area church that night also will be provided with a Thanksgiving dinner, Curby said. Between the two dinners TGM expects 200 people will be fed.

TGM was able to reach their goal of getting 20 turkeys donated for the holiday, but is still in need of pies of all varieties. Pie donations can be taken to the H.A.M. center at 432 S. Broadway. TGM is also taking sign-ups for those interested in volunteering to help clean up after the dinner. They can be reached at 656-1033.
