The Turlock Unified School District commemorated the unveiling of its cutting-edge electric school bus fleet and solar carport infrastructure during a ribbon-cutting event held at the District’s Transportation Department. This milestone was achieved through strategic collaboration with Schneider Electric, The Mobility House, Turlock Irrigation District, A-Z Bus Sales, Valley Air District and NV5. It signifies a step forward in sustainable and innovative transportation for the District.

Turlock USD leveraged more than $8.9 million in grants and rebates to introduce nine electric buses to their fleet, replacing the existing diesel-powered buses. The District also installed state-of-the-art EV charging infrastructure, including fast chargers, solar carports, and software to ensure cost-effective charging. This program propels Turlock USD’s transportation infrastructure into the future, positioning the District for a complete transition to an all-electric bus fleet by 2035.

In addition to the electric bus program, TUSD recycled existing modular classroom buildings into a modern administrative facility for its Transportation Department. The state-of-the-art facility now houses a newly upgraded breakroom and training room, providing employees with enhanced amenities. By repurposing existing materials into functional spaces, TUSD demonstrates its commitment to sustainable practices while also creating an inviting workplace for current and future employees.

“Today, we’re not just cutting a ribbon. We’re opening a door to opportunity, growth, and a stronger future for the generations to come,” said TUSD Director of Transportation Dolores Flores. “This moment reflects our collective investment in education, in our young people, and our belief that every student who depends on a school bus deserves access to a clean air environment.”

In a press release, the District stated that it is “thrilled to embark on this new chapter in transportation, setting an example for environmental responsibility and forward-thinking infrastructure. By investing in green technologies today, the District is committed to ensuring a cleaner, healthier future for its students and the broader community.”
