Joyce Chelgren, 96, of Turlock, California passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Covenant Living in Turlock, California.

Born March 3, 1930, Joyce was a native of Turlock and was raised in Hatch where her father and uncle owned Warren Brother’s store. Joyce graduated from Turlock High School, attended Modesto Junior College, and graduated from San Jose State with a teaching credential. She was a lifetime member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority from her time at San Jose State and later taught for several years at Chatham Elementary School. Joyce was a member of Berea Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed traveling, watching sporting events, and fishing.

She leaves behind her children Mark Chelgren of Galt, California and Marcie Chelgren-Smith of Eureka, California, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald Chelgren and her parents, Arthur Warren and Lillian (Witmer) Warren.

Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

A Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary 247 N. Broadway, Turlock, California on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5-7pm

A graveside service will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Friday August 28, 2026, at Turlock Memorial Park at 10:00am
