Angie Machado Vierra
August 22, 1922 - May 12, 2012
Angie Vierra

Angie Machado Vierra, beloved mother, sister & friend, was granted her path to heaven on Saturday, May 12. Surrounded by family, she died peacefully in her home in Hilmar, California. She was 89.
Angie was devoted to family and friends, and was loved for her zest for life and her compassion for others whose lives she touched. What a joy it was to be in the presence of Angie, with her beautiful big smile. Loving mother, grandmother, friend, her mark on the lives of those she knew was significant.
Born in Agnew, California on August, 22, 1922, Angie was one of five children born to Antonio S. Machado and Maria Vierra Barcellos who immigrated from the Azores to the United States in 1914. At the age of 9 months the family moved to Hilmar where Angie grew up and attended school.
In 1940 Angie met and married her husband Tony Vierra. Not only did Angie have her eye on one of the Vierra brothers but her sister Mary did as well. Together two Machado sisters captured the hearts of two Vierra brothers and down the aisle they went. A loving friendship of sisters and brothers was established and marriage bound them all together for many wonderful years. Angie and Tony were married for 59 years when he passed away in 1999.
In their early married life, Tony and Angie lived in Hilmar where Angie worked at the Bomb Depot during World War II with her sister Elvira, while Tony ran their small dairy and farmed. In 1948 they moved their dairy to Stevinson and in 1957 moved to Hopeton. Through this time they were blest with their son Anthony and many years later their daughter Diane. As their dairy and family grew they moved back to Hilmar where they enjoyed the rest of their lives. Angie and her husband worked hard during their years as a dairy family with Angie cooking meals for all who worked for them. Tony also taught others how to milk cows and it was Angie who kept all of the students and workers fed, three times a day. Her cooking was second to none.
Angie was known as a benevolent and generous person in many ways. Her giving spirit was so appreciated by all she knew. Angie loved her church and community and they loved her. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Parish in Hilmar, including Y.L.I., the Altar Society, and the Sunshine Club. She was granted an Honorary Supreme Office of the S.E.S., as a member of the S.E.S. Council 18 in Stevinson. She was also a member of the I.D.E.S. Council 68 in Turlock, S.P.R.S.I Council 151 of Stevinson, St. Anthony Council 32 of Turlock, U.P.P.E.C. Council 71 of Livingston, Benevolent Council 63 of Snelling, and Our Lady of Miracles of Gustine.
Angie's beautiful smile will now be lighting up heaven as she walks hand in hand with her beloved husband Tony. But that smile will be missed by many.
