A memorial service for Betty Jean Rash, 88, will be held at noon on Sept. 12 at Centenary United Methodist Church. She died after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Harrison, Ark., the middle child of seven brothers and sister born to Hugh and Nan Holmes. Her family moved from Arkansas to Arizona and then to Idaho, where she graduated from high school.
Betty Jean married Lewis Rash on March 23, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1948, they moved to Modesto, and lived there since. Betty and Lew were married for 68 years, and had two children, Betty Lou and Scott. Betty Jean was a wonderful wife, mother and sister. She was an adoring grandmother and dedicated to her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband Lewis; her faithful and loving son, Scott Rash and his wife, Susan; grandchildren, Christopher Gates, Jenna Dufresne, Kelly Rash and Lauren Rash; great-grandchildren, Cody Gates and Merrick and Julia Dufresne; siblings, Billie Stayner of Naches, Wash., Emma Holmes of Petaluma, Calif. and Jerry Holmes of Boise, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Lou Gates.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Casa de Modesto, 1745 Eldena Way, Modesto, CA 95350.
