Elsie Davis

Elsie was born in Crows Landing California on March 27, 1918, and passed quietly in her sleep early on the morning of November 2, 2011. She graduated from Orestimba High School in 1936 and soon after moved to San Francisco to attend nursing school. While in nursing school she met the love of her life, Phil Davis, and they were married in 1940. Like many woman who were part of that greatest American generation, Elsie had to sacrifice much at home while her new husband was at war in the Pacific. In 1945 Phil and Elsie moved to Turlock, where she would live for the next 65 years. Elsie was a member of the 20 Ands Club, the Turlock Bridge Club, and the First Presbyterian Church. She also volunteered many years with the Emanuel Hospital Auxiliary.
Elsie is survived by her two children, Sue Strickland of Turlock, and Dr. Philip R. Davis Jr. of Reno Nevada. Five grandchildren, Giulie Wagner of Turlock, Stacy Davis of Boise Idaho, Mike Tomlinson of Turlock, Samantha Davis of Scottsdale Arizona, and Tora Davis of Seattle Washington. Five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Everett Wagner, Hillary and Harrison Threet, and Brady Davis. Elsie is also survived by her sister, Mary Bernasconi of Modesto.
Funeral Service to be held Monday, November 6, 2011 at 11am at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd. Interment to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
