Longtime Turlock/Hilmar resident Emogene Elmquist passed away peacefully  at her home on April 12, 2015 at the age of 86, following a short illness.

Emogene was born to John and Emelia Heppner in Reedley, California. She grew up in Plainsburg and graduated from Le Grand High School in 1946. She attended Samuel Merritt School of Nursing in Oakland, CA and graduated in the class of 1950. 

Emogene met her future husband Hilding Elmquist through a mutual friend and married in 1951. She managed farm property following Hilding’s death in 1971. 

Emogene was also preceded in death by her son, Eric Elmquist, who died in 1999. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Johnson (Bob) of Concord, and Carrie deBruyn (Jim) of Turlock; five grandchildren, Lindsay drBruyn Ahlem (Mark) of Turlock, Kyle deBruyn (Jessica) of Pittsburgh, PA, Todd Johnson (Tracie) of Fresno, Brett Johnson (Cheryl) of Petaluma, and Jill Johnson of Pleasant Hill. Emogene also leaves eight great grandchildren along with her many special friends.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Turlock Memorial Park with a Celebration of Emogene’s Life at Cornerstone Covenant Church to follow at 1:30 p.m.
