John Peter Rasmussen

Dr. John P. Rasmussen, 81, died on Nov. 2 after a short illness at the Laurel Creek Health Center in Fairfield.  Born in Madera in 1933, he joined the Naval Reserve while still in high school.  After recieving his B.A. from Fresno State College with highest honors, he went on active duty with the U.S.S. Princeton in the far east.  He went on to earn his M.A. and Ph.D. at Stanford University where he met his future wife, Patricia Marks (Deceased).  He became a part of the small but growing faculty of Stanislaus State College while it still met at the county fairgrounds and was named Professor of the Year for the 1985-’86 school year.  He retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of Commander in 1993 and became a Professor Emeritus in 1995.

The Rasmussens moved to The Sea Ranch to enjoy thier sunset years.  Dr. Rasmussen and his wife had 3 daughters, Katherine Watts, Teresa Randall and Diana Herrera (deceased.) 

The daughters request that donations to the Rasmussen Scholarship Fund be made in lieu of flowers.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 12pm noon at Turlock Memorial Park.
