Ralph John Herrera passed away at the age of 54 after a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Turlock and the last owner of Penguins Ice Cream on E. Canal Drive. He was loved dearly by his family and will be missed and remembered for his charm and his love for his mom, dad, many aunts, and cousins. Ralph was born on March 24, 1969 in Turlock to his parents, Ralph and Rosie. He was proud to be from and live in Turlock. He grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Turlock High School in 1987. Ralph worked at Penguins, co-owner and then owner of Penguins Ice Cream on E. Canal Drive in the late 80s into the 90s. He served ice cream to the local neighborhood as well as the students from the Turlock High School and Julien Elementary. Penguins Ice Cream was a place to hang out and spin the banana-spilt wheel on Monday evenings for a chance to win free ice cream, sundae or a banana spilt. In his free time, Ralph loved visiting and spending quality time with his family and friends. He enjoyed taking trips to San Francisco. He also loved McDonald’s french fries! He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock. Ralph is survived by his sister, family, and friends. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Ralph F. and Rosie C. Herrera, Grandparents Gregorio O. and Anastasia R. Cordero and many wonderful and loving aunts, uncles, cousins, close family members and friends. A funeral service is being held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Turlock Funeral Home. Following the service, Ralph will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park.
