Gomer
Robert H. Gomer passed away Feb. 16 at St. Francis Assisted Living in Turlock. Bob was born and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas to Robert Sr. of Tennessee and Myrtle ne Watson of Texas. He moved to Turlock with his wife, Winifred (Winnie), and his daughter, Roberta, in 1950, after serving in the Pacific as a gunner on US Navy Destroyer USS Sumner during WW II. Bob bought Turlock Marble and Granite Works after his father-in-law, Sam Thomas, retired. He operated the business for 40 plus years.
Bob was active in the community, most especially as a lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club. He happily volunteered in countless Kiwanis events and fundraisers.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred.
He is survived by daughter, Roberta Fontenot; granddaughter, Willa Claire Caldwell; grandson, Ian Reed Caldwell; great grandson, Xavier Pena-Caldwell; and sister Ann Woodard.
We remember our father/grandfather as a man of integrity. As a businessman, his word was his bond and you could count on Bob. We remember his generosity — he was generous to a fault. We remember his love of family and home. We remember his enjoyment of outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, cruising, golfing, snow-mobiling and “motor homing.” As motor home owners, Bob and Winnie enjoyed many vacations with the Turlock Pleasure Seekers.
Because of his adoration of children, we appreciate donations made to children-related charities such as Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, Make A Wish Foundation, St. Jude’s Hospital, and/or Angel Flight, etc. in lieu of flowers.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 22 at Turlock Memorial Park.
