Visitation for Wanda Lee Carter, 83, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. July 7 at Allen Mortuary in Turlock. Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. July 8, also at Allen Mortuary with Pastor Arnie Hodge officiating. She will be laid to rest following the services at Turlock Memorial Park.
Surrounded by her loving family, Wanda passed away of heart failure at her residence in Don Pedro, Calif. She was born July 18, 1925, in Heavener, Okla. to her parents, Ed Wilson and Alice Robinson.
Her heritage is Choctaw Indian, her mother was “Trail of Tears” and her grandfather was a translator/negotiator for Choctaw Indians and married a full-blooded Choctaw Indian. After she graduated Howe High in Oklahoma, she married Ernest J. Carter on May 18, 1942. They owned restaurants in San Francisco, Milpitas and Turlock for 45 years until retirement. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star Golden Gate Chapter #1. Some of the favorite things in her life were her kids, grandkids, family gatherings, chocolate, nuts,
and a good joke.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Ernest J. Carter of Don Pedro; daughters, Edna Faye McBride and Linda Diane Carter, both of Don Pedro; grandchildren, Nancy Galli of Turlock, Jerry McBride of Turlock, Kim Cabral of Hilmar, Rhonda Jackson of Denair, Larry Carter Jr. of Lodi, Duane McBride of San Jose, Laura Carlson of Pacifica and Kevin McBride of Elk Grove; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her two oldest children, Nancy Sue Kennedy and
Larry Don Carter Sr.; and siblings, Stanley, John, Sam, Ted and Betty.
