Elhard receives weeks top honor for cross country, again

It seems as if Cal State Stanislaus junior Rubye Elhard earns more than just a congratulatory round of applause every time she finishes a cross country race this season.

She also gets league recognition.

For the second time this season, the Seward, Alaska native was honored as the California Collegiate Athletic Association Female Cross Country Runner of the week — this time for her efforts at Friday’s San Francisco State Gator Invitational, where she clocked in a winning time of 22 minutes, 19 seconds to lead the Warriors to a third-place finish in the team standings.

This is only Elhard’s third race of the season. Her first one, the Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, marked the first time she earned the week’s top honor for her sport after her and her twin sister, Denali Foldager, placed first and second to carry the Warriors to win their only home meet.

Stanislaus will return to action on Oct. 23, when the Warriors compete at the CCAA Preview Meet in South El Monte, Calif.
