Two more Cal State Stanislaus track and field athletes have earned provisional marks for this year’s NCAA Division II Championships to be held on the Stanislaus campus later this month.

At Sunday’s Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University in Palo Alto, middle-distance runners Rubye Elhard and Dawson Vorderbruegge each notched a national qualifying provisional mark in their respective 1,500-meter runs, joining four other Warriors who have reached the same achievement of having a chance to compete at the national meet on May 26-28.

Elhard clocked in a time of 4 minutes, 33.98 seconds to finish third in her 1,500-meter heat and Vorderbruegge also finished third in his heat in 3:51.59, shaving off more than one second from his personal best.

Elhard’s time is enough for 22nd-best in the nation on the women’s side, while Vorderbrugge sits at 25th on the men’s side.

“Rubye and Dawson ran great races,” Stanislaus distance coach Diljeet Taylor said. “Both were so exciting to watch. It was a great confidence-builder heading into CCAA Championship week.”

The California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship will take place this week at Warrior Stadium, starting Thursday and ending Saturday.
