A 20-over round has sent Stanislaus State down the ladder of the team standings as the Warriors dropped to 14th after two completed rounds of play at the NCAA Division II Championships at the Reunion Resort.
The Warriors had the morning tee-times on Tuesday and things went from bad to worse as the round went on. By day's end — after an afternoon lightning delay — Stanislaus finds itself at 29-over par for the tournament. While not out of contention, the Warriors are 10 strokes out of eighth place. Teams will need to place in the top 8 after three rounds of play on Wednesday to advance to the medal/match round.
Ash Patel had the best round on the day for the Warriors with a two-over 72. He's currently tied for 12th with a 141 tournament total. He had four birdies on the day to counter four bogeys. But a double bogey at No. 4 was the difference.
John Burke shot a 4-over par 74 in round two and Jordan Koelewyn scored a 76. Chad Kubes (78) and Jahaan Nargussi (79) rounded out the Stan State scoring.
Barry is the team leader at 8-under 552, followed by West Florida (556) and Florida Tech (561). Florida Southern (562) is in fourth, making the top four teams all from the host state.
Cal State Monterey Bay (580) remains in the hunt for the top 8 as the Otters are just one shot behind eighth place Le Moyne College. CSUMB shot a +7 on Tuesday for one of the better rounds on the day.
Round three will be a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.
