Warriors snag first conference win over Toros

The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-2 (27-29, 27-25, 18-25, 26-24, 15-11) Friday night in their first California Collegiate Athletic Association match of the 2010 season.Lianne Vicchio led the Warriors to their first win with 19 kills.  The Warriors record is now 1-0 in the CCAA and 3-2 overall.The Warriors had a tough first two sets against the Toros.  The first set the two teams were tied 11 times.  In the second Cal State Domiguez Hills started the game off with a 13-5 run before the Warriors called their first timeout, which led to the Warriors 9-2 run over the Toros.  "After the third set, the girls seemed to have battled through all of their nerves and began to play tougher," said Coach Lore. "This is a young team and struggled a bit in the beginning, but by the fifth game the team just seemed to click.  The girls out-blocked the Toros and had great serve receive the entire game," added Lore. Eva Chafeh added to the teams total with 13 kills and Marsh with nine kills. Kaycee Gow led the team in blocks with 10 block assists and one solo block.  Marsh also tallied six block assists on her night.  Nicki Brown also led the team with 46 assists.The Warriors out-served the Toros, and Megan Britton had three service aces.  Brown and Chafeh each had two service aces.Denise Devine, of Cal State Dominguez Hills, led the match with 26 kills.  Hilary Hougardy led with 21 digs and setter Cassidy Mangum had 51 assists on the night.The Warriors next will play 7 p.m. today at Cal State L.A.
