With the regular season for local high school baseball wrapped up, the Sac-Joaquin Section released playoff brackets for each of its seven divisions on Saturday. Six teams from the Journal coverage area qualified to this year’s postseason, with three slated to play home games in the opening round.
All of the action gets underway on Wednesday. First pitch for each game is set for 4 p.m. Winners will advance to the quarterfinal round, which takes place across all divisions on Friday.
DIVISION I: No. 5 Turlock vs. No. 12 Edison (Stockton)
Turlock will be heading into the postseason riding a six-game winning streak, capped last week with a sweep of rival Pitman to claim the program’s third straight Central California Athletic League title with a dominant 14-1 record.
The Bulldogs, 21-6 overall, are seeded fifth in the Division I bracket, and will welcome No. 12 Edison of Stockton to Mark de la Motte Field. The Vikings sport a 21-5 overall record, which included a 12-2, first place finish in the San Joaquin Athletic Association.
The winner of this first round contest will play the winner of No. 4 Granite Bay and No. 13 Mountain House on Friday.
DIVISION II: No. 13 Pitman at No. 4 Jesuit (Carmichael)
As for Pitman, a five-game losing skid to end CCAL has set them up with a game just outside of Sacramento. The Pride finished 9-6 against conference opponents, tied with Enochs for the second-best record in the CCAL and one game ahead of Gregori in the final standings. With a strong 17-10 record, the Pride are the No. 13 seed in Division II.
Their opponent, No. 4 Jesuit, is a team that went a similar 17-11 in the regular season, and won the Sierra Foothill League with a 13-4 record against conference opponents.
The winner of Wednesday’s game in Carmichael will advance to play either No. 5 Woodcreek or No. 12 Rocklin, which means even if the Pride pull off an upset Wednesday, would still have to hit the road for its quarterfinal contest Friday.
DIVISION V: No. 11 Hughson at No. 6 Liberty Ranch (Galt)
After a .500 start, the Hughson program capped its run in the Trans-Valley League on a four-game winning streak to finish with an 8-4 record against conference opponents and clinch the league’s third and final automatic playoff berth.
At 14-14 overall in the regular season, the Huskies are the No. 11 seed in Division V and will travel north to Galt to face No. 6 Liberty Ranch. The Hawks went 18-8 in the regular season and achieved an 11-3 record in the Sierra Valley Conference, good for second place.
The winner between the Huskies and Hawks will go on to play either No. 3 Sutter or No. 14 Union Mine on Friday.
DIVISION VI: No. 11 Hilmar at No. 6 Summerville (Tuolumne)
Despite a losing record in the regular season and in the Trans-Valley League, the Hilmar program has earned an at-large berth to the postseason, set to compete in the Division VI bracket.
The Yellowjackets will enter the playoffs on a four-game losing streak, which dropped their record to 4-8 in the TVL, finishing in the fifth place. At 10-12 overall, Hilmar is seeded No. 11 and will travel to face No. 6 Summerville.
The Bears went 16-6 in the regular season, and were runner-up in the Mother Lode League with an 11-4 record.
Wednesday’s winner will advance to play Friday against No. 3 Bear River or No. 14 Buckingham Charter.
DIVISION VII: No. 2 Turlock Christian vs. No. 15 Esparto
Turlock Christian was able to clinch its first Central California Athletic Alliance championship since 2023 this past week with a two-game sweep of Venture Academy. With a 7-1 record against conference opponents and a 13-3 overall record in the regular season, last year’s Division VII finalists are seeded second as they attempt to avenge falling short in 2025.
The Eagles will host No. 15 Esparto at Pedretti Park on Wednesday. In the Spartans is a team with a small resume. The program only played 11 games in the regular season, earning a 3-8 record — the bulk coming in their 3-6 campaign in the Northern Pacific Athletic Conference.
The winner of this game will play either No. 7 Denair or No. 10 Delta Charter on Friday.
DIVISION VII: No. 7 Denair vs. No. 10 Delta Charter (Tracy)
Denair’s path to the postseason has been a roller coaster. After starting the season winless through its first seven games, the Coyotes strung together a pair of four-game winning streaks to earn a winning record in the Southern Athletic League and make the playoffs for the first time in 24 years.
The Coyotes finished third in the SAL with a 9-5 record, the last win coming against Waterford, 9-0, where junior Noah Lundquist tossed a 15-strikeout no-hitter.
At 10-13 overall, Denair is seeded seventh and will host No. 10 Delta Charter of Tracy at Ron Cornell Field. The Dragons went undefeated in six games in the Mountain Valley League and wrapped the regular season at 7-8 overall.
