A handful of track and field programs from across multiple local leagues came together on April 12 at the Hughson Vintage Invitational. The teams of Pitman, Hilmar, Denair and host Hughson were among the 23 in attendance, and saw several of their student-athletes either win or set new school records.

Brewer breezes by competition

Hilmar’s Lilly Brewer is continuing to rewrite the record books through her senior season. At the Hughson meet, she claimed her ninth school record, and it came in one of the sport’s most gloried events, the 100-meter dash.

In the semifinals of the event, Brewer turned in a time of 12.62 seconds, taking first place over Pitman’s Sofia Martinez by .57 seconds and eclipsing Jayme Soares’ 2024 school record by .08 seconds. She then claimed full victory in the finals with a time of 12.84 seconds.

The senior was also victorious in the day’s 200-meter dash (26.34) and the 300-meter hurdles (47.12).

The record was the third Brewer has set in program history this season. Four days after the Hughson meet, at their TVL dual with Sonora, she finished the 300-meter hurdles in 45.15 seconds. On March 7 at the Merced County Championships, she set a new 200-meter mark with a time of 25.75 seconds. At the TVL Relays in Escalon on March 19, she joined Alyssa Colston, Addie Belo and Miliana Lacey to post a 35.28 mark in the 4x100 shuttle hurdles. At the Stanford Invitational on April 5, she ran a 1:06.49 for the school’s only time in the 400-meter hurdles.

In addition to those, Brewer owns Hilmar’s top marks in the 400-meter race (58.46) and the long jump (17’ 8.5”), as well as in relay teams in the 800-meter sprint medley with Soares, Kyndall Johnston and Brianna Dias (1:57.70) and the 4x400 with Soares, Johnston and Brisa Gonsales (4:08.46).

Logsdon logs best two-mile time

Brewer’s teammate, Sidney Logsdon, set a school record of her own by finishing the two-mile race in 11 minutes, 36.69 seconds. It was nearly five seconds faster than the runner-up.

The junior also owns the top 3200-meter (11:41.59) mark in Yellowjackets history. She, Sophia Lopes, Mia Westmoreland and Emma Nyman also own the top 400-meter distance medley relay mark, 13:43.90, set earlier this year at the TVL Relays.

Jumping to victory

Not only are some of the area athletes incredibly fast, but they also have “hops.”

Pitman freshman Emily Martinez won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.27 seconds. Sophomore teammate Julianne Ramirez won the long jump with a heave of 15 feet, 11 inches. Hughson senior Liliana Silva dominated the girls’ pole vault by clearing 10 feet, 4 inches — winning by nearly two feet. On the boys’ side, the Pride’s Dante Jenkins, a sophomore, won the pole vault competition with a leap of 12 feet, 6 inches, which was a whole foot higher than the next closest athlete.

Relay victories

Hughson’s boys’ program won a pair of relay races on their home turf. In the 4x100 thrower’s relay, the group of Owen DeKleva, Franky Uribe, Hector Nuno-Garcia and Leland Luhdorff won in 51.19 seconds. The group of Lincoln Elizondo, Julio Merino, Malakai Sumter and Adrian Andrade, meanwhile, won the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:35.17.

Pitman’s 4x100 team of Kayliyah Williams, Isabel Fuentes, and Emily and Sofia Martinez won with a time of 51.19 seconds.

Other big winners

Pitman’s Saveena Gadri dominated in the girls’ shot put with a distance of 37 feet, 5 inches. Her personal best gave her a nearly seven-foot cushion between her and the runner-up.

Hilmar freshman Milana Lacey won the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.14. Hughson junior Noeli Gomez-Orozco won her mile race with a time of 5:36.86.
