Turlock baseball ends losing streak, tops Merced

The Turlock High (8-2) varsity baseball team has quietly yet steadily been creeping and stalling just behind or barely ahead of Pitman High for the top spot in the Central California Conference for most the year.

Recently after falling in back-to-back games to Merced High on Monday and Thursday, the Bulldogs looked to be on a downslope but by the end of the week they reversed the spell by snapping their two game losing streak.

Friday marked a different turnout as the home team in the Bulldogs came out firing away against the Bears and managed to top the third place team in the CCC, 5-3.

Starter Cody Cornell tossed a great game as he picked up the win for the ‘Dogs after the home team took a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth.

By the end of the fifth the Bulldogs had extended their lead to 5-0 before the Bears struck three runs in the final two innings but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs held on for their 14th overall win of the year.

Turlock’s next series will prove to be one of the major deciding factors for the CCC champion as Turlock will host Pitman at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
