Top ranked singles player Mila Johns was the only loss for Turlock during the Bulldogs' home match, retiring after a third set (4-6, 6-0, 2-5).

“We played a good team—just an unorthodox team. We had to play their game,” said Turlock head coach Linda Bejaran.

Doubles winners include Turlock’s Abby Narano and Michelle Gomez, who beat their Stagg opponents 5-7, 6-4, 10-6; as well as Turlock’s Emely Fernandes and Mehr Sahota, who defeated their opponents, 7-6, 7-1, 6-4.

“We hadn’t played a team that hit with a lot of spins,” Bejaran said. “It was a fun team to play.”

Turlock girls tennis continues on Thursday as singles player Johns and doubles players Carlson and Chan will travel to Sacramento for individual and doubles Section tournaments.

Turlock’s next team match in the Section playoffs will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Turlock High School.
