The Hilmar Yellowjackets varsity wrestling team is currently 2-0 in the Trans-Valley League after defeating Hughson, 61-11 on Wednesday night on the road.

“We wrestled well tonight. Hughson had two kids who beat our two freshmen kids,” said Hilmar head coach Steve Vieira.

Wyatt Carter (132), Wyatt Amaral (160), Justin Rentfro (170) and Cody Rentfro (182) each highlighted the day with victories out of the eight matches that took place.

“We had a good night,” said Vieira. “I think all of the guys are in a good place right now but it’s time to pick up a few notches — it’s time for the big ones for us the next couple weeks.”

Hilmar is 2-0 in TVL and 7-1 overall.

The next match for Hilmar will be at home against Escalon at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
