Bicyclist injured in hit and run collision

A young bicyclist was struck by a vehicle in Delhi on Monday and law enforcement is seeking the driver who fled the scene.

Merced Communications Center received a call of a hit and run involving a vehicle versus bicyclist at approximately 10:55 a.m. Monday on King Street and Mediterranean Avenue in the city of Delhi.

Upon emergency personnel arrival, it was determined that a juvenile male bicyclist had sustained minor injuries after been struck by a vehicle at the intersection.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the juvenile male was riding his bicycle on King Street in a northerly direction across the roadway. The unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on Mediterranean Avenue, east of King Street at an unknown rate of speed approaching the bicyclist. The driver side of the vehicle collided with the juvenile male, causing minor injuries. The vehicle continued to travel westbound on Mediterranean Avenue fleeing the scene.

Through the course of the investigation, officers determined the vehicle involved is a 2014-2019 silver Hyundai Sonata with possible driver side damage.

The juvenile was immediately transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for his injuries.

This collision is under investigation and the CHP Merced Area Office is requesting any witnesses to the incident or anyone with information regarding the silver Hyundai Sonata involved in the collision to contact Officer M. Flores at (209) 356-6600, or after hours at (209) 356-2900.
