A single-car accident at Johnson Road and Canal Drive at 2:41 p.m. Friday took down a Turlock Irrigation District power pole and knocked out electricity to nearly 1,400 customers — including the Village Corner shopping center, Julien Elementary School, and Turlock High School. About 45 minutes later, the number of affected customers had been pared down to about 500, with full service restored by about 5:30 p.m. According to Turlock Police Officer Marco Diaz, the driver of the early-2000s Toyota Tundra suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
