SACRAMENTO — The Sac-Joaquin Section Divisional Track and Field Championships took place Saturday at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College, with the Turlock High boys team successfully defending its Division II crown with 124 points, steering clear of second-place Vista Del Lago by a whopping 63 points. Last year’s title marked the first for the boys in program history.
The Lady Bulldogs came up just short of clinching a D-2 blue banner of their own, scoring 99 points, just 20 short of champion Christian Brothers. Also finishing as a runner-up were the Hughson boys and girls teams in the Division V contests. The boys finished 1.5 points behind Ripon, who won with 65. The girls fell short by one point to Calaveras (64).
The top-eight finishers in each event contributed to their team’s point total.
The prep track and field season continues Saturday with the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters in Folsom.
D-2 BOYS
The field events were key for the Turlock boys en route to the blue banner. Sophomore Anthony Brown earned first in the long jump with a leap of 22-09.75 and finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 42-03.00. Junior Tanner Linhares placed first in the discus with a heave of 159-08. Senior Dylan Cacho was runner-up in the discus with a distance of 130-00. He also scored points with a 40-04.50 toss in the shot put for seventh place. Senior Tadeus Oppenhuizen placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 43-06.50 and third in the pole vault with a height of 14-06.00.
Other pole vaulters to place for Turlock were runner-up senior Mason Hernandez (15-00.00), fifth-place senior Corbin Fernandez (13-06.00) and sixth-place senior Aiden DeSouza (13-00.00). Junior Dallas Richardson also placed third in discus (129-07).
Senior Ricardo Lacerda and sophomore Reed Miller contributed in both track and field events. Miller placed sixth in the shot put (40-10.50), ninth in the pole vault (11-06.00) and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.88). Lacerda earned a personal best mark of 22-03.00 in the long jump to earn second place. He also placed fourth in the pole vault at 13-06.00, and was a member of the third-place 4x400 relay team (3:25.59) alongside juniors Zayn Hamilton and Ismael Hernandez and sophomore Naythan Diaz.
Hernandez placed sixth in the 400-meter race with a time of 52.47. Hamilton placed eighth in the 800 with a mark of 2:00.61. Senior Larson Wejmar also earned distance points, finishing fifth in the 1600 with a time of 4:28.27. Senior Camden Smith rounded out the scoring with a school-record time of 14.63 in the 110-meter hurdles, good for runner-up position,
Pitman also had standout performances, highlighted by junior Dante Jenkins. Jenkins placed first in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 15-03.00. Jenkins also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.82). Junior Eli Scott also earned points in the 1600 with a personal-best time of 4:32.88 as he finished eighth. In the discus, the Pride had two point-earners in juniors Jackson King and Arman Singh. King recorded a distance of 126-05 for fourth place and Singh placed seventh with a mark of 122-06.
D-2 GIRLS
Juniors Emma Trevor and Haley Stiles led the way for the Bulldogs with first place finishes. Stiles took first in the high jump (5-00.00) and Trevor won the pole vault (11-00.00). Trevor also earned sixth in the long jump (16-09.25).
Freshman Piper Oppenhuizen placed in three individual events for Turlock, finishing second in the long jump (17-09.50) and third in both the triple jump (35-09.25) and pole vault (10-06.00). Sophomore Naomi Fernandez, meanwhile, placed fourth in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.64) and pole vault (10-00.00).
In the 4x400 relay, juniors Faviola Hernandez and Mylie Olson and sophomores Haylee Whiting and Claire Johnson finished fourth (4:11.23). Hernandez, senior Serene Klair and sophomores Gabriela Martin and Ava Josephine Mello placed sixth (50.21). Hernandez also finished fifth individually in the 400 (59.33). Martin followed with an eight-place finish in the 100 (12.90).
Sophomore Ellison Williams placed third in the 1600 with a mark of 5:06.16 while junior Grace Nass placed eighth in the shot put (31-03.00).
As for Pitman, sophomore Emily Martinez led the way with three top-eight finishes, placing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.80) and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (49.83), while also anchoring the 4x100 relay team of Isabel Fuentes, Kayliyah Williams and Isabela Jacinto that finished eighth (51.12). Senior Saveena Gadri earned third in shot put (35-01.00) and took eighth in discus (94-07). Williams added a third-place finish in long jump (17-08.75), and freshman Taylor Walker cleared 4-08 for sixth in high jump. Fuentes earned sixth in the 100 hurdles and ran a leg in the relay.
D-5 BOYS
Senior Bryce Williams was a dominant force for Hughson, taking first place in the pole vault (14-06.00) while also placing third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.69) and contributing to the Huskies’ 4x100 relay team. Williams, seniors Eli Wilbanks and Lincoln Elizondo and junior Titus Beers finished third (43.90). Elizondo also had individual success, finishing sixth in the 100 (11.05) and fourth in the 200 (22.76). Junior Manuel Ruiz took fourth in the 800 (1:59.79) and ran the opening leg of Hughson’s fourth-place 4x400 relay (3:37.78), which featured sophomore Abraham Perry (10), junior Diego Salinas (11) and freshman Everett Perryman (9). Sophomore Jacob Wetenkamp added a fourth-place finish in pole vault (12-06.00), and senior Alessandro Pimentel placed seventh in the 1600 (4:42.90).
Denair was paced by junior Chase Steeley, who earned three top-three individual finishes. He placed second in the 100 (10.82), third in the 200 (22.56), and first in the long jump with a mark of 21-08.75. He also joined juniors Bryson Salazar, Noah Chavez and Bryson Leib to finish eighth in the 4x100 relay (45.55). Junior Harlan Brown contributed points with a fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles (15.87) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (42.91).
Hilmar had one top-eight finisher in senior Linkin Landron placing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles at 16 seconds even.
D-5 GIRLS
The second-place finish by the Lady Huskies featured a balance of strong individual and relay finishes.
Freshman Addison Yarbrough placed third in the high jump (5-02.00) while junior Keylee Lundquist finished seventh in the 200 (26.79). The two joined freshman Regan Henry and sophomore Brooklyn Foss to place second in the 4x100 relay (50.33). Sophomore Malia Sloan placed fourth in the 400 (1:01.03) and junior Grace Benitez took third in the 800 (2:24.61). The two teamed with freshman Jaelyne Anguiano and senior Bailey Bilson to place third in the 4x400 relay (4:15.01).
Senior Maci Fife cleared 9-06.00 for third in the pole vault. Olivia Piazza added a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (17.19) and seventh in long jump (15-11.00). Senior Sophie Benham placed seventh in the 1600 (5:28.48), and junior Emily Van Gaalen took fourth in discus (100-09).
Hilmar was led by sophomore Milana Lacey, who finished second in the 400 (58.53), sixth in the 200 (26.52) and won the 300-meter hurdles in a personal-best mark of 45.29. Senior Sidney Logsdon placed fourth in the 1600 with a personal-best time of5:18.45. The Yellowjackets 4x100 relay team of seniors Brisa Gonzales and Emma Nyman, junior Mia Westmoreland and sophomore Mili Lorios finished seventh (52.61). Westmoreland also placed sixth in high jump (4-10.00).
