Delhi man accused of sexual assault of disabled woman

A Delhi man has been arrested by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department on allegations he sexually assaulted a disabled woman.

Roberto Cabrel Salazar, 60, of Delhi was booked into the Monterey County Jail on numerous sexual offenses related to the case, according to the sheriff’s department.

The sheriff’s department learned of the alleged sexual assault the week of April 5 and began their investigation. The reported victim in the case is a disabled woman and an acquaintance of Salazar’s, according to the sheriff’s department.

The investigators also learned that Salazar was a previously deported felon and unregistered sex offender. 

Investigators traveled to Delhi on April 9 and conducted surveillance on Salazar with the assistance of the Merced County Sheriff’s Department. Salazar was contacted at his residence and arrested without incident. He was interviewed and at the conclusion of the interview was driven back to Monterey County and booked into jail.

A bail enhancement was sought in this case due to the nature of the offenses and granted. Salazar’s bail is currently set at $1 million.
